As a business owner or manager your primary focus is financial.  Of course it makes sense to have a staff member(s) take on the responsibility of keeping the office clean, or does it?  Are you really saving money?  How does it impact the bottom line?  Sure there’s one less invoice to pay at the end of the month, but why isn’t revenue increasing?  You forgot to factor in the loss of productivity.  Taking a staff member away from their primary responsibility hinders productivity of not only their job but also disrupts the entire staff.  How many phone calls have to wait for the vacuum cleaner to stop?  How many calls are missed because the phone couldn’t be heard over the vacuum?  How does it affect the “team” when one person is designated to “clean up” after the rest, or have access to others’ personal belongings?     

As a working parent, how much “family time” are you missing?  Sure it’s easy to keep the house “picked up” as you go.  Everyone pitches in and loads the dishwasher, and clothes hampers are strategically located.  What about the dusting and vacuuming?  Most families have a designated “cleaning day”.  Wouldn’t it be nice if cleaning day became family day?  Imagine yourself enjoying the latest movie at the theatre while your kitchen floor is being mopped.  Sounds to good to be true, but it’s easier and more affordable than you may realize.
